I met a man who quit a law firm to start his own business. Four kids under the age of 12, no client base and during a recession. “Too much certainty” he said. His name was already on the building (metaphorically) and he saw his next 20 years being what the previous persons life was.
Flip the script, try the same thing in a different way.
I used to do yoga at a studio in the bush with a lady who barely charged for her classes. Eftpos machine didn’t work? Free class for everyone! Need to borrow my award winning designed studio for the day, go ahead! No charge, just give me a hug next time I see you.
The business model still works.
I’ve purchased food from a man who has owned a food truck for over a decade. He openly puts his prices up $1 a year. No one minds. He doesn’t hide it. Supports his family, always with a smile on his face.
He’s probably made almost a million wraps.
I met a man who had no “real job”. He lived off the land and paid for his accommodation using his hands. He built things, carved things, planted things, cooked things and provided wisdom about the local environment. He was one of the most skilled humans I ever met.
Happy too, always wanting to give his time.
I met a man who worked at a printing shop. I made an assumption he didn’t have children. He actually had two. And he held my child for a brief moment as I searched for my wallet. He suddenly had “father” written all over him. I changed my opinion about any man I would meet in the future.
We hide our parenting abilities too well sometimes.
